Wafer Works (6182.TT) announced its February revenue of NTD$ 428 million, representing 2.57% YoY growth, and NTD$ 938 million accumulated for the first two month, with 6.3% YoY growth. Since 2015, Wafer Works has gradually improved its financial structure and business operation by accomplishing new share offering, obtaining syndicated loan, issuing convertible bond, and completing merging with its subsidiary, Wafer Works Optronics. With the increase in both 8-inch silicon wafer capacity and the shipment in analog IC, logic IC and micro-sensor chip, Wafer Works remains a prudent but optimistic perspective for this year.
Benefit from the popularity of smart mobile devices, and the connection to wearable devices or automobile electronics, the concept of diversified application of IoT (Internet of Things) has been realized. IoT is anticipated to be the next major growth momentum in semiconductor industry. According to the estimate of IHS-iSuppli, the total number of global IoT devices will achieve 18 billion pieces in 2018, which will substantially raise the demand of micro-sensor and micro-controller. Revenue of micro-sensor market is anticipated to be USD$ 9 billion, with 6.7% CAGR. The demand of 6-inch and 8-inch silicon wafer will definitely increase accordingly.
In response to the demand of advanced silicon substrate driven by IoT applications, Wafer Works is going to launch a research program by participating in the government’s advanced technology development project for intelligent devices and cooperating with the top domestic material technology related research house, schools, and enterprises to develop and fabricate the advanced silicon substrate. Wafer Works aims to cut into the niche market of micro-sensor, widen its application aspects and its market share of semiconductor silicon wafer, and expects to become a global tier-one semiconductor silicon wafer supplier as well.
