In response to the thriving market of IoT, Wafer Works plunged into the research and development of advanced silicon substrates, and further submitted the application of “Advanced Silicon Wafer Technology Development for M EMS Device in IoT” project to the A+ industrial R&D innovation program under DoIT MoEA last year, in order for fulfilling the supplier chain gap in MEMS industry. The project was accepted with approval by MoEA in Feb, and the contract has been mutually signed in May.
The project will be executed for 3 years with total research funding over NTD$ 180 million, exclusive of CAPEX. The government will sponsor up to NTD$ 72 million accordingly. Currently it is in the phase of practical development with the facilities & equipment in place, and new products are scheduled to be distributed to the market in the 3rd quarter this year. In next 3 years, Wafer Works will be the only supplier with leading technology in Taiwan offering this model of superior high-tech silicon wafers.
